The Cozy Hobbies I Lose Myself In

What activities do you lose yourself in?

There’s something about getting lost in an activity when time slips away, and you’re completely immersed in something you love. For me, those moments come from the cozy hobbies that bring comfort, creativity, and a sense of escape. (An escape from sometimes dark thoughts that come with deteriorating health.) These aren’t just pastimes, they’re little rituals that make life feel more meaningful.

Fashion Illustration

Ever since I was little, fashion has been a part of me. I could spend hours flipping through fashion magazines, studying the details of an outfit or sketching my own ideas. Now, fashion illustration is a creative outlet where I can fully lose myself. There’s something about bringing an idea to life on paper. The pencil strokes, the mix of colours… I love it. And if you’re new here you might not know that I’m a qualified fashion illustrator. It’s something I really enjoy.

Junk Journaling

These days it’s called junk journaling but this is something I’ve been doing since I was in school. It’s also sometimes called memory journaling. I keep concert tickets, flight tickets, postcards of travels and just general “stuff” that others would consider junk. And I create pages with all the “junk” along with photos in my junk journal. I have videos on my TikTok and YouTube of my junk journaling. It’s my way of storytelling and memory collecting.

Gaming

Gaming is my ultimate escape, and I love how it transports me into different worlds. It’s also something my hubby enjoys so we often play together. Whether we’re exploring the eerie landscapes of The Last of Us, getting lost in the open world of Red Dead Redemption or Fallout 4, or styling virtual outfits in Covet Fashion, I completely forget about everything else. Gaming is more than entertainment, it’s immersive and sometimes even therapeutic. Plus, as a ‘noob’ still learning, every game feels like a new adventure to master. I stream regularly on my Twitch channel and I also love playing Sims4, Overcooked and Days Gone.

Colouring

There’s something so soothing about colouring. It’s a hobby I turn to when I need to clear my mind or just need to not think about anything. It’s simple, yet it has a way of grounding me and pulling me into a state of flow where nothing matters except the next stroke of colour. I really find so much inspiration on TikTok from others colouring. It’s just a fun, creative outlet.

Reading

Books have always been a comforting escape. I actually can’t remember a time in my life where books weren’t apart of it. My mom loves to read and took my brother and I to the library with her from a very young age. There’s something extra special about curling up with a dark romance novel or a Christmas-themed book during the holiday season. The moment I open a book, I’m fully absorbed in its world. Reading isn’t just a hobby, it’s a way to experience different lives, emotions, and perspectives without ever leaving my cozy space.

Each of these hobbies allows me to enter a space where the outside world fades away. Whether it’s through creativity, storytelling, or quiet mindfulness, these activities bring a sense of calm and joy. They reflect different parts of me: my love for fashion, my appreciation for art, my need for adventure, and my desire for cozy comfort.

In a world that often feels fast-paced and overwhelming, these hobbies remind me to slow down and savour the simple joys. And maybe that’s the beauty of truly losing yourself in something… You find a little more of who you are.
